Good job, dancers and musicians!!!

The participants of the 2-week workshop on Ethnic Music and Dances from Southern Philippines concluded on July 2, 2010, Friday with a performance at the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center.  During this workshop (which totaled to 10 hours), the participants learned about two music/dances:  warrior and janggay dances and Philippine history.  Instructors were Tessie Greenfield (far left) for dance and Philippine history and Jenny DeBouzek (far right) for music.   Click on instructors to learn more about Jenny and Tessie.   To learn more about the music and dances, click kulintang.

This is a project of the New Mexico Asian Family Center and United Way in cooperation with the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center through the Summer Program coordinator, Angelina Poulin.   The goals were to educate school children about Asian countries (like the Philippines) through music/dances and history and to help them develop self-esteem by performing in front of an audience.
