The Kulintang Ensemble of Albuquerque or KEA with Artistic Director, Cristal Everette (kulintangensemble@yahoo.com) (holding the microphone on top left photo) was formed after a few members took the 4-day training by Kulintang Master, Danongan Kalanduyan (photo above) in 2004. For more about kulintang music, visit: www.kulintang.com.
Performances (photos above) of KEA were held from 2005 to 2009. The Philippine Dance Group of Fil-Am Foundation of NM and KEA (old & new members - see photos below during rehearsals) will be performing at the Welcome Reception for the FANHS Conference participants on June 27, 2012, Wed, 6:30 pm (visit this site for the updated time) at the Old Town Plaza, Albuquerque.
In summer of 2010, two KEA members, Jenny DeBouzek (music instructor on far right of photo below) and Tessie Greenfield (choreographer - far left of the same photo) conducted a workshop on Ethnic Music and Dances from Southern Philippines at the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center (photo below) sponsored by United Way and the NM Asian Family Center. See left column for links to the videos of the performances: Janggay (nail dance) and Sagayan (warrior dance).
Tessie Greenfield (left photo) is shown performing at the St. Joseph Institute of Technology, Butuan (Southern Philippines) during their Christmas party. She also trained two youth during her brief stay. See video of their “recital” during a Christmas party - left column.
